News ImageInside London Zoo’s new wildlife hospital | BBC News

London Zoo is marking the 200th anniversary of the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) - the conservation charity that owns and operates the zoo - with plans for a new state‑of‑the‑art wildlife health centre, funded by a £20m bequest from a mystery donor. The facility would allow visitors to observe animal medical procedures up close, including post-mortems. BBC News’ Justin Rowlatt was given behind‑the‑scenes access to the zoo’s existing animal hospital to see what the new centre could mean for conservation, research and public engagement. The plans have also prompted debate about animal welfare and the role of modern zoos. News ImageEx-FBI director surrenders over charge of threatening President Trump in Instagram post | BBC News

Former FBI Director James Comey surrendered to authorities on Wednesday to face a charge alleging that an image he briefly shared on social media posed a threat to the life of US President Donald Trump. It stems from an Instagram post shared by Comey, which contained an image of seashells on a beach arranged to read "86 47". "Eighty-six" is a slang term for "get rid of", and prosecutors allege it encourages violence against Trump, the 47th president. Comey denies any wrongdoing, saying he did not know what the numbers meant, and accused the prosecution of political motivation. This marks the second time the justice department has brought criminal charges against Comey, a longtime critic of Trump. News ImageDid Donald Trump save eight Iranian women from execution? #BBCNews

US President Donald Trump claimed that his intervention helped save eight women arrested in Iran from the death penalty. Iran responded by saying that none of the women Trump mentioned were ever facing execution and accused the president of fake reports. The BBC's Chief International Correspondent Lyse Doucet is reporting from Tehran on condition that none of her material is used on the BBC's Persian Service. These restrictions apply to all international media organisations operating in Iran.
